wilderness fitness Safari

An epic adventure to strengthen body and soul

January 19th-27th, 2024

The best fitness is the fitness that we do for the fun of it. Instead of guilt driving us, it is curiosity or pleasure. This safari will take that approach. It will be focused on fitness without being focused on fitness. Adventure will be the goal and fitness is what we will achieve in the process.

Night 1-3

After a scheduled flight from Nairobi to Nanyuki and a drive north from there into Laikipia, we will meet our team with whom we will embark on a 3 night camel safari. Our safari will go past beautiful country conserved for the largest biodiversity of large wildlife in Kenya. Each night we will camp in a new beautiful camp, the camels carrying the tents and other gear and the rest of us walking, tracking and sometimes possibly running. Along the route of the safari we will be able to rock climb on ancient rock kopjes as well as to practice crossfit, hit training, trail running and stretching before huge expansive wilderness views. We will always try to pack a lot into each day but we will not over do it and we will always save time for a rest or a read after lunch each day. Your instructors will be Isaac for crossfit, training and trailrunning and Paul for rock climbing, walking and trailrunning.

Night 4-8

In the morning of our last day with the camels we will wake up early, enjoy a short walk before a hearty and healthy breakfast. Then we will board the vehicles that will take us to the start of our Mt. Kenya hike. We will enjoy picnic along the way and start our walk on the Chogoria access road. We will walk in a short distance to camp near a small stream. The next day we will hike up to Lake Michaelson and find camp among the tussocks and heath by its shore.  Lake Michaelson has excellent trout fishing and we encourage everyone to consider bringing a packable flyrod.

Your camp at Lake Michaelson is stunning and it makes a perfect spot to spend a rest day, acclimatizing, exploring or maybe trying some fishing.  This is one of the most stunning places on earth and you will find yourself having to stretch your neck from too much gawking at the sheer walls of rock that surround you.

From Lake Michaelson you will hike up to summit on Lenana at around lunchtime.  If it is clear you will be able to see for miles towards the Aberdare Mountains. After some photos and high fives you will make an easy descent to Makinder’s for the night. The views up of Batian are superb.

From Kami hut we will walk down the Naro Moro route to pick up our vehicle at the Gate. Lunch en route and sad goodbyes to our team in the lush forest at the bottom.
