Scaling New Heights: A Rock Climbing Safari through Laikipia and Mt. Kenya

September 1st - 10th 2024

Schaniela Wright

This trip will be guided by Schaniela Wright who was raised in Kenya and is fluent in adventure and safari. At the age of 17 Schaniela realized that mountaineering at altitude was the career she wanted to pursue. Through planning and executing numerous mountain bike and high-altitude expeditions all over the world, as well as gaining experience in river rafting and kayaking in Kenya and Uganda, Ela has become a confident and safe climbing leader.

Her British mountain qualifications, include: qualified Winter and Summer Mountain Leader, Single Pitch Rock Climber, and Mountain Bike Leader, and also certifications in Advanced Outdoor First Aid Training and Beach Lifeguarding.

Tulia will begin on foot where you will be meat in East Laikipia, Kenya where the safari will begin.

Karisia Walking / Rock-climbing Safari:

The trip will traverse beutiful country, walking to a new campsite each day alongside some of a great team of camels and Masai guides. Each day will consist of rock climbing on ancient granite rock as well as walking through vast wild plains amongst Africa’s most spectacular wildlife. In the evening and early morning's there will be yoga sessions aimed at mindfulness and awareness.

When our bodies and minds have found their tempo and after 4 wonderful days of unwinding in the bush, we will continue our journey to climb Pt. Lenana reaching 4985m on foot (with the option to complete Batian the technical climb - inquire). This ancient mountain once stood at 7000m before it erupted and later went through a great glacial period that scoured its slopes and which left it filled with mesmerizing views and history. As we move higher, our journey takes us past jagged rock spires, sparkling streams and broad green valleys. We will camp by deep cold lakes that might tempt those ready to embrace a swim in the frigid waters.

Tulia is a unique combination of experiences that we hope will bring awareness of the geology, culture, and wildlife of Kenya. We hope too that Tulia might give visitors too a perspective on the environmental threats facing the habitats of those landscapes we have traversed.
