The Masai Mara is located in South Western Kenya. Together with Tanzania’s Serengeti it forms one of the world's most diverse and spectacular eco-systems. With riverine forest and short grass plains, this area is renowned for the most exceptional big game viewing worldwide.
Located in a birdlife paradise with a small river running through it, Matira is an intimate eco-camp of only 13 tastefully furnished tents that are carefully placed for maximum privacy in harmony with the nature around them. The camp stands in the very heart of the famous Mara river basin of the world renown Maasai Mara National Reserve and plays centre stage to Africa’s most dramatic wildlife destination, where the game drive begins just outside the camp.
For the next four nights and days, you will have the opportunity to explore on game drives (included), and enjoy any of the other additional activities available at Matira Camp including guided bush walks, a visit to the local Masai village, a bush breakfast or picnic lunch, and ‘sundowner’ excursions.

20th to 24th October: Tumaren & Satellite Camps
Set on the edge of a wide plain this beautiful camp looks west towards granitic inselbergs that define our local landscape. Each tent is furnished uniquely and all the tents offer sweeping verandas from which most of our plains game can be spotted. The grasslands are rich with wildlife and you can spend hours watching animals wander by or photographing the huge variety of birds coming to the bird bath.
Tumaren is rich in wildlife and our Samburu and Masai guides provide a great perspective on not only the game but also the local cultures of Northern Kenya. Our guides will plan the days according to your desires, wildlife and the local calendar. Each day can include guided walks, camel rides, visits to the camel creche, game drives, birdwatching, picnics, tracking, visiting a local manyatta or market (if the day is right), visiting a school and rock climbing.
You will spend a night at Tumaren Camp, before heading out to our private Satellite Camp, set up especially for you in a wildlife-rich area. Here you will be able to explore each day on foot with your guide before returning to the privacy and comfort of your private camp in the Bush. Your final night will be spent back at Tumaren Camp.
