Walking with Camels

Lower Ewaso Wilderness (4 Nights)

After your stay at Tumaren, your journey continues with a mobile camel safari through the lower Ewaso Wilderness. We will be starting from an area called Crocodile Jaws after the fierce rapids that descend through a tight canyon on the Ewaso Nyiro (Black River) River. Over the course of the next 4 nights we will walk beside the river and then up and around hillsides and topography too steep for camels or even hikers. This is a roadless area and a sense of remoteness and wilderness is unavoidable. We will encounter Massai and Samburu people bringing their livestock to drink or to eat on the adjacent hillsides, especially durring the daytime when they come down from their manyattas typically far up above the river. Frequently one can hear the young men singing to their flock as they get water.

This unique safari experience allows you to continue exploring the rugged and diverse landscapes on foot but this time accompanied by a large caravan of camels carrying your camp equipment. Each day, you’ll trek through different terrain, from bushlands, dry riverbeds to riverine forests, observing some of the unique wildlife and birdlife along the way.

Your guides will share their expertise about the tracks, ecology and cultural history of the area, and enriching the experience with some good insights into the cultural diversity of Kenya. Lunches are enjoyed in camp, walkers arriving at the next camp after it is set, typically around 11:30. am or so. In the afternoon walkers typically embark on a short stroll to look at views, birds and whatever they might find. An evening sundowner on a pretty hillside is often the main goal. Back at camp, you can relax with hot showers, a delicious dinner, and some star gazing around the campfire.

E-Bike Safari

Samburu (4 Nights)

The final stage of your safari adventure takes you on an exhilarating e-bike journey across the conservancies west and eventually north of the Samburu Reserve. Between towering rock kopjes justting from the sea of Acacias, we will look for Elephants, Gerenuk and if we are very lucky, Lesser Kudu. You’ll traverse a breathtaking landscapes by e-bike, covering ground where very few tourists go. The bikes offer a mode of travel with a unique perspective on the area’s people and culture. Its more easy to connect to people when on a bike and smiles and stories are more frequent than when boxed up in a vehicle.

During the e-bike safari, you’ll ride through open harsh acacia bushlands, dry rivers called lughas and riverine forests with a diversity of special bird species. Like durring our walking safari, we will complete each day’s bike before lunch arriving to an all ready set up camp. This time it will not be the camels but several land cruiser that have gone ahead to set up camp. The unwind in camp with a cold White Cap or with a sundowner later might be the best you’ve ever had. It will also be well deserved. In the evening we will enjoy dinner fireside, and share stories of the day’s adventures under the stars.

This trip will be a diverse and immersive experience, combining luxury accommodation, adventurous walking safaris with camels, and the thrill of e-biking through some of Kenya’s most breathtaking landscapes. Your journey promises indelible memories and a deep connection with the nature and people along the way.
